Concrete and Effective Support

Our Services

Organizations working to help farmed and wild animals need to know if their efforts are making the biggest possible difference. This is where monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) becomes crucial - but it doesn't have to be complicated or overwhelming. At The Mission Motor, we collaborate with you to develop practical ways to track progress, understand impact, and continuously improve your work. Our approach focuses on improving or creating new MEL tools that match your organization's specific needs and capacity, ensuring you gather meaningful data that drives better decisions. By making MEL accessible and actionable, we help you maximize your impact for animals.

We welcome you to choose our support services individually or as packages by clicking the Apply For Support button below. If you are unsure where to start, please still apply and we would be happy to advise you on where to begin your MEL journey.

Note: our services are provided free of charge as we are supported by the generous donations of our funders!

We can help you with:

    • Description: Analyzing existing research and evidence relevant to your intervention to identify proven approaches, common pitfalls, and knowledge gaps.

    • What we will do: Guide you through developing a decision-relevant evidence review framework, help identify key sources to examine, and support synthesizing findings to inform program design.

    • Benefits for your organization: Building on existing knowledge increases the likelihood of success while avoiding known pitfalls, ensuring your intervention design benefits from previous experiences and research.

    • How long: Typically takes 3-4 one-hour sessions.

    • Deliverable: Evidence brief

    • Description: Examining your intervention's environment through stakeholder mapping, analysis and engagement, and contextual analysis (PESTLE).

    • What we will do: Help you design and implement appropriate assessment tools, facilitate stakeholder mapping exercises, and guide analysis of the broader context your intervention operates within.

    • Benefits for your organization: A deeper understanding of the context helps ensure your intervention addresses real needs effectively and accounts for important external factors that could affect success.

    • How long: Usually requires 2-3 one-hour sessions.

    • Deliverable: PESTLE, SWOT matrix and/or stakeholder and power map.

    • Description: Identifying appropriate information through various means from the relevant stakeholders to design a custom intervention.

    • What we will do: Help you design data collection tools, guide you through the implementation, help with data analysis and identify the needs of the intervention appropriately.

    • Benefits for your organization: A deeper understanding of the needs of the stakeholders will help design an intervention that will favourably affect the animals

    • How long: Usually requires 2-4 one-hour sessions.

    • Deliverable: Report on stakeholder needs.

    • Description: Creating a systematic approach to comparing and prioritizing different options (of interventions, stakeholders, etc.) using weighted criteria that reflect your organization's priorities and constraints.

    • What we will do: Support you in identifying relevant decision criteria, determining appropriate weightings, and developing a framework that enables systematic comparison of options.

    • Benefits for your organization: Having a structured way to compare options helps ensure resources are allocated to the most promising interventions and decisions are based on clear criteria rather than intuition.

    • How long: Generally takes 2-3 one-hour sessions.

    • Deliverable: Matrix or other model with clear decision criteria and outcome.

Planning

    • Description: Creating a visual representation and narrative that explains how your intervention activities lead to desired outcomes, including key assumptions and external factors.

    • What we will do: Facilitate collaborative sessions with your team to map out your intervention logic, identify critical pathways to change, and create a clear theory of change document that can guide your work and monitoring, evaluation and learning efforts.

    • Benefits for your organization: A theory of change provides the foundation for monitoring and evaluation by clearly articulating how change is expected to happen, enabling you to test these assumptions and adjust your approach as needed.

    • How long: Usually requires 2-4 one-hour sessions, depending on intervention complexity.

    • Description: Systematically identifying and analyzing key assumptions underlying your theory of change and potential risks that could affect implementation success.

    • What we will do: Help you identify implicit and explicit assumptions, assess them criticality, develop comprehensive risk mitigation strategies, and create ongoing monitoring plans for critical assumptions.

    • Benefits for your organization: Understanding assumptions and risks helps focus monitoring efforts on critical areas and develop contingency plans, increasing your intervention's resilience and adaptability.

    • How long: Typically takes 1-2 one-hour sessions.

    • Prerequisite(s): Theory of Change

    • Description: Develop and prioritize critical questions about your intervention.

    • What we will do: Help you identify key learning priorities based on your theory of change and assumptions

    • Benefits for your organization: Clear learning questions ensure you gather information that helps improve your intervention while contributing valuable knowledge to the wider evidence base.

    • How long: Typically takes a single one-hour session.

    • Prerequisite(s): Theory of Change (mandatory), Assumptions and Risks (optional)

Design

    • Description: Creating a comprehensive plan outlining what data will be collected, how often, by whom, and how it will be used for decision-making.

    • What we will do: Support you in developing a practical monitoring system that tracks key indicators while being manageable within your resource constraints and organizational capacity.

    • Benefits for your organization: A well-designed monitoring framework ensures consistent data collection and creates clear accountability for using that information to improve your intervention.

    • How long: Usually requires 4-6 one-hour sessions.

    • Prerequisite(s): Theory of Change and Indicator development (mandatory); Assumptions and Risks and Key Learning questions (optional)

    • Description: Conducting focused assessments of specific aspects of your intervention. In some cases, we will also be able to provide support for understanding your intervention’s process efficiency and/or cost-effectiveness.

    • What we will do: Help you design and conduct targeted evaluations of specific components or questions about your intervention, creating practical recommendations for improvement while working within resource constraints.

    • Benefits for your organization: Evaluations provide deeper insight into specific aspects of your intervention without requiring the resources of a full impact evaluation, enabling timely adjustments and improvements.

    • How long: Generally takes 6-8 one-hour sessions.

    • NOTE: There are some evaluations that we are not equipped to do. In such cases, we will be able to advise you on the evaluation plan and connect you with people who may be able to help you implement the evaluation process.
